IT'S COLLEGE MYTH BUSTER NIGHT on Sept 22nd at 7:00 pm!

How do you know your college essay is good enough? Does applying “early” really matter?  Will your grades affect the amount of financial aid you might receive?

Come to College Myth Busters Night on Tuesday, September 22nd (7:00 to 8:30 p.m.) at the Scarborough Municipal Building and learn answers to these and other questions from Bill McMurray and Kathy Strand of College Search U. The objective of the evening is to save high school seniors (and juniors/sophomores wanting a jump start) TIME, MONEY & SANITY as they prepare their applications and finalize their college list. Parents are also encouraged to attend this FREE workshop offered to the Greater Portland community.

Why the focus on BUSTING MYTHS? Because it’s clear in our work/research, and in following the media and professional/governmental studies, that our society is caught in a trap of some deeply believed, but wrong assumptions about college and the admission process. Acting according to these myths costs families significant time, emotional energy, and money each year. Moreover, the energy invested in pursuing myth-based college searches causes students to miss discovering colleges that represent better fit options. This is why, as we adhere to the best practices of our profession, we explain the realities of the college admission process and debunk the myths to individual students and parents.
